Rusty's Aunt Alison had one a while ago and it got me curious about what it was and what it did ect. Basically, it is a band you wear on your arm, 24/7, that counts the calories you burn each day. It also counts the steps you take, and when in the day you did them. It uses sensors to measure motion, skin temperature, skin resistivity and ambient temperature. It communicates with software on your PC to calculate your calorie expenditure. There is a very easy to use website where you input your food log, and it helps you figure out how many calories you consumed that day. Essentially, it isn't a diet. They don't tell me what I can or can not eat, or how much or anything like that. They do recommend meals and snacks for me each day if I don't want to find something healthy on my own. But the logic behind it all about the numbers. Calories in vs. calories out. My goal each day is to burn at least 2250 calories and only consume 1750 cals. So I would have a defect of 500 calories a day. Every 3500 calories I have in deficit is equivalent to losing one pound. Bet you didn't realize that that also means you would have to eat an extra 3500 calories to gain a pound. (you're wondering what you ate at Christmas time aren't you?!?)The program has you wear the band to begin for 48 hours straight (except for showers, duh) so it can figure out your body's natural rhythms. Then you only have to wear it during the day. Then you answer a questionnaire about your lifestyle, food habits and preferences and it sets up a whole program for you. It has so many other features, but I haven't even learned them all yet! I love it. It won't tell me to eat fish for a meal, cause it knows I hate fish, so it usually recommends some chicken dish. So, if you see a gray band on my arm, it's not my IPod, its my BodyBugg.

I love that it is an actual physical reminder to make good food choices. I feel like it will buzz me if I get to close to a Wendy's or a Dr. Pepper, but it doesn't really... If you watch Biggest Loser on NBC, they wear the Buggs, but you usually can't see them with their long T-shirt sleeves. I can't tell you what they cost, it was a gift, but I do know you can get them at 24 Fitness or online.
Alright, prepare for me to now ruin your favorite foods by telling you how many calories are in them...
- Route 44 Strawberry Limeade from Sonic 480 cal
- A Grape Cream Slush from Sonic 430 cal (That's for you JLB)
- Large French Fry from Wendy's 540 cals (plus the ranch...that's another 160 calories)
- The 'Baconator' they are advertising right now has over 800 cals!
- A Large Reece's Blizzard is over 1000 cals!

Wow that is really cool! Good for you. You may also not want to know that the Penne Rustica from Macaroni Grill is 2000 caleries. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress!
Caryn, I have seen this and wanted to get one but it's expensive. Rusty loves you a lot! I struggled with the baby weight from Austin and had an "aha" moment while eating truffles and watching the biggest loser marathon. Calories in/calories out. There's no secret, it's just math. Just like you, I knew my calorie budget for the day and could spend them how I pleased. I realized the healthier I ate, the more I could eat though. You can eat anywhere if you now the nutritional information (Taco Bell: chicken soft taco fresco style only 140 calories). I loved this post!! BTW: Outback's cheese fries (2500 calories without the ranch dipping sauce and 250 fat grams) I can never eat them again. Sorry, really long comment.
Caryn, It looks like it would drive me crazy. Anyway, pictures, I have seen of you, you look good, you worry to much. I bet it is fun though seeing the carlories burned and consumed. I think I would be a lot more conscious of what I was eating. Anyway, Have fun!!!
The bugg sounds amazing...and that really is all it's about calories in and calories out, plus educating yourself on how many calories are in what.
That's awesome! I so want one now. I've seen the contestents on Biggest Loser wearing them and I had no idea what they were. Now I know. Thanks! Um, where can I get one?!?1
Way cool! I should get that. I am finally exercising again and enjoying it but now feel like I can eat more junk or I want more junk food. I hate trying to lose weight!
What a neat gift! I've never seen them before but it looks pretty fancy. I know how it feels to struggle losing the baby weight, but you can do it! It took me longer than I wanted but I eventually got there again. It sounds like you have a great attitude and it really is simple math.
Sounds like a nifty gadget. Good luck losing what you want to. I've been lucky with my last two to lose the weight fast after having the baby, but who knows with the third one. I'm hoping my body will be the same way because weight gain is one of my biggest fears. I hate gaining when I'm pregnant because even though you're suppose to, I feel like I'm just getting fat. But you look good, so don't worry.
What an awesome thing! Let me know how it continues to go! Heaven knows I have baby weight!
I'm telling you, read the abs diet. You can eat almost anything. AND you get to eat 6 meals a day. Call me and I'll tell you about it.
I have always wanted one of those. I hear they are amazing. When Dan gets out of law school that is going to be one of my first purchases, the first of many!
Fascinating device! Sounds cool. Hopefully it will go well for you. I think my stupid PCOS is at it again, cuz the weight is not doing what it is supposed to. I'm gonna give it a few more weeks and hope the weight adjusts on its own before I talk to a doctor though. I want to avoid Metformin if at all possible. I enjoy not being sick all day!
Wishing you luck and feeling your pain (although for the record, I agree with KellyAnn!) Keep us posted!
Okay Caryn,
I am convinced you know what you are talking about and if I was in Az we would work together. So I guess I have to work here alone! Thanks for inspiring me. I am on my way to Idaho for three weeks:( and then on to KC back here for Jonathan's baby, and then Jacqui's wedding! Want to come and help? I read your blog all the time but don't always sign, so know I think of you. Kiss all your boys for me.
Love,
Verlinda
I always wondered what those things were on their arms on Biggest Looser--I love that show! I would say that that is a priceless device for those of us who didn't used to have to worry about weight, therefore never paid attention to what was good/bad for you.Way to be committed!
