So, I swear the moment I became a Mom I developed Bionic Ears.
(I developed Bionic Smell when I got pregnant, but that in an entirely different story...) You know what I mean. I can hear Rusty down stairs, scrolling on his computer 'cause the mouse makes this screeching noise. Or, for example, I can tell you that my neighbor puts his garbage can out every Tuesday night right about 10:20. Cause no matter where I am in my house I always-even after 5 years in this house- think someone is opening our back gate. And
once I have done a quick mental check, remembered it is garbage night then I am good.
Or I can tell you exactly
who at the dinner table is crunching their ice
(personal pet peeve). Ooh ooh ooh, or like how every once in a while the thing in my shower that hold the shampoo and stuff, will get too heavy and fall; making this crazy crashing noise. And when everyone else is wondering where it came from, I have already headed up the stairs...
Of course there is the typical Mom noises, like being able to hear your newborn crying even without the monitor
(both a blessing and a curse). Or
knowing that it is your kid screaming down the hall at church by his voice. Being able to tell you the number of rocks being thrown in your pool by the 'plunk' they make. Thing's like that. But I think the thing I have become the most tuned into is the sound of silence. Silence with two boys is never good.
Case in point...

Jaci loves to "help" with the laundry too. Isn't it funny that quiet can be so disturbing? We miss you guys!
Hailee likes to "help" me clean out my drawers, empty out the q-tip box, the lotion. You know, the stuff I need help with! She even does it with out me asking her too. I really like it when she cleans up the lotion with the q-tips. She is so much help! What a fun age!
I have a similar problem...only it's that I am hearing things that aren't really there. Every night I check the monitor THOUSANDS of times because I could swear I hear her crying, but in reality, all is quiet and still.
I am very impressed you can hear your neighbor taking out his garbage! Those are some bionic ears!
Ha ha...I just re-read your post and realized I missed the fact that you already called your ears bionic. We must be related!
I am like Genny- I hear all kinds of things that are not there. It's the worst when Tyler works late (and by late I mean he gets home at 3 in the morning) and I SWEAR someone is in the house, because I heard the noises on the porch, I heard the door open, and I heard the footsteps... how freaky am I? I usually end up calling him to see if he came home only to find out he's still at work.
Even with a hearing loss it is amazing how well I can hear the kids, (or not). Your post was cute. It sounds so familiar!!
silence IS the loudest sound. it means trouble...even with little girls. i also have a bionic nose and ears. it's often a curse.
Caryn...you nailed it with the bionic ears! {nose too!}
Totally random...when is your big trip?
I too am like Genny and Mary, although I was a lot more like Mary the first two years we lived in the house we currently do. I freaked over every little noise when Spencer wasn't around. Luckily the more kids, the less paranoid.
Berkley is so dang cute! I love the picture of him helping clean out your purse the best. Thanks for making me one of your beautimus necklaces, I cant wait.
You are funny! But, I too have bionic ears! Kinda annoying for the most part. Oh well. Oh, and thanks Berkers for teaching Yazee one more thing for her to get in trouble with!
Ah ha ha ha! Tooooo funny. TOO TRUE!
Oh I so feel you on that one! Silence almost always equals naughty!
Hey Caryn, I love the haircut and I'm trying to figure out how to pass on the "mom hearing" to my kids so that they can cut it out with the selective listening. Talk to you soon.
thank goodness for our extra sensitive senses as moms right? how else would we hear the baby playing in the toilet from across the house? or the potty words being whispered in the back of the car with music blasting? Love kids :)
I totally hear ya on the bionic nose thing. The sound of silence is a scary thing. But sometimes I evaluate...is the mess that this silence is creating as big of a deal and the peace and quiet I am getting right now. If not, I let the mess continue a little longer.
Oh boy does this bring back memories! But you are up to it. You keep an eye on Janae, poor Jag. Miss you and hope to see your family soon. Hey, want to come and help with the wedding:(
Love
Verlinda
So I'm always last to check your blog, but today was the day and I wasn't disappointed! Also loved your video, Monster on the Closet.
