No More Hand-me-downs...

Having two boys both born in the same month (and throw in a nephew -born in the same season just a year before Berk) I have had good use of the clothes my kids have.  After Braden outgrew things I shipped them up to Draven and then we get them back in time for Berk to wear. We had a pretty good thing going I thought. Quite a lot of BANG for our bucks, ya know?

Until about 3 months ago- when 'pants season' started for Braden. Suddenly jeans only are lasting about 3 weeks.  I started seeing all these little holes in the knees of his jeans. So I did the thrifty thing and ironed on patches. Those lasted about another 3 weeks and now we are getting holes in the patches covering the holes!  Seriously what is my kid doing at school? It is ALWAYS the left knee- always.  For some reason his khaki pants are exempt from this thrashing, thank goodness!  So I have hit the point where my kids will no longer be getting hand-me-down jeans pants. Mostly cause they have all been cut into nice jean shorts.

My theory is that denim just isn't what is once was or something, cause I was the youngest of six and I know I got loads of hand-me-downs, so why did those last and these didn't?!? Anyway, just needed to vent. And now  I am going to go wait for the UPS guy- he's bringing me some new maternity clothes (yeah) and a few new pairs of jeans for Braden to thrash...oh the joys of motherhood.

You know, I have the same trouble. All of Briaunna's school pants have holes in the knees and she has a lot of pants. She informed me that they crawl around on the floor every day picking up garbage before they go home. It would be cheaper for me to donate a vacuum to her class than all the pants we are going through:)

Same trouble here. Peyton got tons of new jeans for Christmas and they have all got holes in ONE knee... just so happens to be the left knee as well! It is making me crazy! Clothes are definitely not what they used to be. What is going on with the world today!???

Sweet... now just hem them and turn them into shorts for summer?! :-) just a thought seems you find the positive twist in everything.

I actually totally remember my jeans being lighter in the knees when I was in elementary school and I would consiously try to not kneel down as much. I think it is just kids, especially boys I think you are doomed!

The material is definately thinner. I mean, all the "washed" looks jeans have when you buy them - I think whatever they do to them eats away the material so it is so thin! Clothes cost more, and are worth less. Steven does get holes faster than my girls, and his pants are heavier denim, so I think boys are just harder on the knees, too. Who knows!

Too funny -- Mitch's pant holes are only in the left knee too!

I just bought Kyle a new pair of jeans & he won't wear them because he likes the holes in the knees.

I was just thinking that you found out you are having a girl because you said no more handowns. I can't wait to find out what you are having.

I seriously have no idea how I came across your blog... but we too are a heart family from Phoenix and reading Braden's story was wonderful!! He looks like such a strong little guy and you would never know how hard that first year was for him.

Our little guy just turned 1 and has HLHS. He has 2 surgeries down and now he needs a new heart. His antibodies are high and so we are in and out of PCH with chemo to try to reduce the antibodies. We have to go to California for a transplant and it sounds like you know all to well how that is.

I had no idea you were a 'heart mom.' Isn't it crazy what life throws at us? It is a good thing we don't know what is ahead of us.... There truly are only a few things more heart breaking than seeing a heart baby post op. I am glad that your little man is happy and healthy. There is much to be grateful for :)
