Have you brushed your teeth today?

We just got home from the dentist with Braden today. He had to get 7 fillings! Gee, did someone inherit his mother's horrible teeth, I think so... Normally the dentist isn't fun but for Braden there is an added step that makes even cleaning visits not so fun. B already has to get sedated at the dentist for any work done because frankly he is 4 and hates to sit still. This is compounded by pretty much hating any doctor's office period as well as anyone in scrubs, a white coat and or latex gloves. But I have decided the very WORST part of the entire ordeal is something that happens before we even head out the door... the dreaded "pre-med." For the rest of his life, anytime B goes to the dentist he has to take a large dose of antibiotics due to his repaired heart problems. It helps fight away the tiny germs that are released into the blood stream during dental work that most of us fight of normally, but because of his Mitral Valve repair we have to be extra cautious. (I'm sure all you dental wives can get a better explanation of why he needs it). So that means the dose grows as he does. Today he is up to 4 teaspoons, yep, 4 teaspoons of yucky bubblegum flavored grossness. Try getting that down the throat of a kid who hasn't had anything to eat for 12 hours... Luckily I only ran into 4 people I knew in the waiting room while I was splattered from head to toe in ammoxicilian (not to mention my kitchen floor & Rusty's shirt too)... yeah my kid can spit pretty far when something gross comes his way. Luckily we were able to give him the sedative medicine and then he just didn't care what was going on and drank the whole yucky thing. Braden boy, you are sure a stinker for all the fuss you gave us this morning but we thank our lucky stars that this is the only side effect that remains from your special heart! Oh, and 'Mom Bonus', he took a nap today, first time in a year!!! SO, What do you do when both kids are napping at the same time??? Oh, duh blog of course.

I love reading about your motherly stories. You are great! So sorry about the medicine that stinks but im so glad his heart is healthy and strong now. I hate the dentist!!! I wish they would put me out! What are you doing these days is Braden doing any preschool?

You have forever ruined your child. On the next one, try to give him or her better teeth. Poor B-den and the life he has a head of him. He'll just get addicted to laughing gas like his mom. :) You make me laugh!! And I needed a good laugh tonight. Thanks!!

I agree. Hopefully Berkley gets his daddys teeth (if he gets any at all)! I was hoping I could get some of the sedative medicine too after the ammoxicilian ordeal.

Sadly Beth, he eats pretty darn good, genetics just kicked him in the butt! Poor kid!

Oh yeah, Beth I totally forgot you can verify that one with your dad I was in there this week too for a broken tooth, yep! Seriously crappy teeth on my side of the family!

I have to verify the whole crapy teeth thing. Both of my older boys had to have root canals done on their baby teeth--yep baby teeth. How do you like that.\side note I was at Hogle Zoo(Utah) the other day and saw Dr. Gerritsen and some of his fam. He looks the same other than more gray hair.Crazy huh?

So sad. It is so not fair when some people don't take care of their teeth at all and have no cavities, then others just get stuck with crappy genes. I hope the pre-med goes better next visit (cuz it sounds like there will be lots of next visits).

Hey, did you see that the blogspot you gave me for backgrounds went crazy? I noticed your bunco background was messed up too. How do you search for peoples blogs? I haven't figured that one out. How is Braden feeling after his dentist visit?

That is so stinky Caryn. Hopefully B doesn't hate all dentists :) My hubby is a nice one I promise! Dave is in charge of the teeth in our house so he flosses and brushes the kids teeth every night. I say what difference does missing a day make?? JK hopefully next time will be a better experience for B! So glad to finally catch up again! Love ya
