The Nesting Bug...

Despite my best efforts to contain it, the nesting bug has hit me early and hard! It started simply enough. Last week we busted into our 'craft cupboard' to play playdough and at the end of the day as I tried to clean up --it hit. Suddenly, it's 10:30 at night and I am sitting with a garbage bag, plastic bins and a label maker. But an hour later all the arts supplies, playdough, coloring books and paper were all neatly stacked and arranged. Whew.

I went to bed and woke the next morning with an unhealthy urge to find the missing Cars characters- that have been a staple of play for Berk for a while now- and low and behold 8 hours later, my playroom was clean, organized, labeled (dang that label maker), and I even cleaned the sticky spot of who-knows-what on the carpet. I was itching to paint in there- but logic took hold and that urge passed.

My closet, where I could barely see carpet was the next to get it. My clothes are once again coordinated by color and season. And my maternity clothes are finally all hanging together so I don't have to hunt them out. The suitcases & bags from all our traveling LAST SUMMER (pathetic) have had a final clear out and been stacked away in the back of my closet. My bins are labeled (blasted label maker) and sorted and I am all ready for the next project...
Now the problem is the ORDER in which I will nest. I lay awake thinking about it (like I said, I don't sleep)which project I want to do first. Berkley's closet, where there is serious need of space bagging to do- as well as the whole "get it ready for the baby thing"; my pantry; the junk drawer; oh the things I have let get out of control. I have at least bought the paint and found the beds I want for the 'big boys' room... but that is as far as I have got in that area. **Update, space bagging finished...I had the time, what else could I do? Sleep? **

But it really is the more outrageous ones that leave me stumped. Like this crazy desire to paint my garage. Yep, the inside and yes it is a million degrees in there right now. Or wanting to walk my house with a Mr Clean Magic Eraser and attacking every little scuff mark I see. Ooh or wanting to scrub the sand toys. See, this nesting bug really is an illness! I just don't get one thing. The whole I am way to tired to actually accomplish most of these tasks! Thankfully Rusty is up for any type of cleaning and my Mom will jump in to help too. I am just starting to realize I only have about 12 weeks left, and that makes me nervous!

I did the Magic Eraser thing just the other day. I don't think I am in full nesting mode yet but I am on my way. I wish I could be as organized as you.

I cleaned all the blinds at my house while huge prego, I dont' think I've cleaned them any other time... why is it that we do so much more when we're preggo? But doesn't it feel soooo good to be organized? I LOVE that feeling! (I don't get it very often ;)

I happen to love this post! If you have checked out our blog lately I too have been on an organizing kick! It makes us feel so accomplished doesn't it!

Oh my WORD! Maybe I need to have a sixth child to see if I can get some nesting instincts going on and get my house under control! Just kidding. I don't remember tackling any garages during any of my pregnancies! Good luck with the rest of your projects.

OK, you are making me laugh....and the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is one of the greatest inventions for houses with small children! I am feeling the nesting bug too...and it's hard when you are supposed to be "taking it easy".

I'm doing the same thing. I want to clean out all my cupboards and reorganize and put shelf paper on them, go through all my drawers, clean out Jaci's closet (also a lot of space bagging to do) and I've even had the urge to get on my hands and knees and scrub my floors. And I'm not even pregnant!!!

So great! Your comments bring me to "good" tears. I don't remember my nesting days, though I know I had them - too far in the past, now that my youngest daughter is - oh - you know - (won't state the age). At least you're younger than I was on #3! And as one who has seen the results of your nesting so far - good job! Keep it up.

That's awesome that boy #3 is on the way! What's going on with this pattern? I have 3 boys then my girl came, Stephanie has 3 boys then her girl came, and I have 2-3 other friends in the same place! You know what that means...one more and you'll be set! So good to check out your blog again! I lost the address for a long time and just found it!

Ha ha! You and I have been living parallel lives- I tackled my version of your closet this past week. Only I haven't gotten to the crafts part yet....I worked my way through all the photo albums, and I'm still trying to get past the boxes and boxes of food storage...then I get to the craft stuff (which, don't hate me, will probably mostly end up in the garbage since it's old and I rarely use it anymroe!)

I wish I could have just a little of your ambition! My house (and yard!) are full of unfinished projects right now.

I dont know what is worse, the fact that you want to do such crazy things when nesting, or the fact that the whole thing seems pperfectly normal to me...ahhhhhhh OCD
