My Nemisis...

I hate laundry.

Okay really just the gathering part and the actual switching loads part.

I dread Monday's because that is my designated laundry day. And yes it's Tuesday but I have been procrastinating.

But worst of all, I hate pairing up socks.
Hate it like I hate having sand all over my clean hardwoods or having it rain after I finally get my car washed. Hate it.

And why is it that all of the socks can't come back out of the laundry when you KNOW they all went in? Rusty is always asking for a pair of dark socks- good luck I say! I like the tidiness of having the laundry all folded and in baskets and ready to be put away (shoot I even started paying my little niece to help me put some of it away!) Everything is peachy, my system is set-- all except for the sock matching.  Is there a better way, any tricks? I mean besides the whole 'wear once and toss' thing which is utterly wasteful but sounds oh so good to me right now...

I don't have time to look right now, but I have heard there are these washable mesh sacks that you can use as your "sock hamper". Then you throw the whole sack right into the washer and dryer. So long as your boys (Rusty included) put both socks IN, both will come out! I've thought about getting some :)

socks are my least favorite part, too. there always seems to be one missing. wish i had some helpful advice!

i don't have a designated laundry day. i do 2 loads about every other day so i don't get behind and dread it!

Hate to break it to you but I think if everyone was 'woman' enough to admit it, you would know that everyone has the dreaded sock basket....I do anyway:) I even wash them last because I know I won't get them folded.

I second you on being a laundry hater! It never ends does it! I love when I see my boys running around in sock outside too! One of the joys of being a mother! I am training my kids right now to help with laundry. Hopefully they can eventually start doing it. Wouldn't that be nice:)

Aaaa! Socks! I was complaining to my Grandma and she told me she used to make her kids safety pin their socks together when they took them off. I think of all the work that makes for me and I don't quite think it's worth it. Let me know when you come up with a solution!

Isn't it amazing how socks get lost in the wash? I just did the laundry and lost a couple socks and cannot figure out where they went. Frustrating!

Oh my gosh! One thing I have on Caryn! I don't lose socks. Well, almost never. I don't know why either. No tricks. My dryer doesn't seem to like their taste I guess.
My laundry is done on Fridays. I like doing it all on one day. I hate feeling like I'm never done doing it.
Oh, I do use mesh bags for yazee & Talia's socks. Try that.

I am so with you on this one! Then I procrastinate the folding of the socks and stick them in a basket, and they magically end up all over my house. About twice a year I want to just throw away all the socks in the house (7 people =many many socks) and buy all new ones. But I am too thrifty to do it. So the single sock basket survives..

Oh the dreaded missing socks, how funny is that, I mean really how can we loose socks!

Oh Caryn, I am sooo there. I hate laundry almost as much as I hate spiders, and that's a LOT. As for the socks, my father-in-law has a trick: he only buys the exact same type of sock for his white socks and the exact same type of sock for his black socks, and he doesn't bother matching. He just throws all the white socks into one drawer and all the black socks into another. He also buys about a thousand pairs of each, so if one goes missing, he'd never know it. You might try that.

And Genny, yes, there are washable mesh sacks. I use them and they are a life saver. Not just for socks (in my case, nylons), but for delicates and other things that you don't want getting wound around the agitator thingy and getting ripped.

This may sound silly but it works at my house. The kids play "go fish" with the socks. They each get a pile and take turs asking for matches. It usually takes a little bit to get them done, but I don't have to do the matching and they have fun playing the "game."

I, too, use the mesh bags for the girls' socks, it works great for the little things. Ray doesn't care if his socks match or not. He'll just wait until he has two mismatched socks and turn them into a pair. It drives me nuts, so I just let him match his own socks. Also, I've taken up buying lots of the same style socks for Ray so it doesn't matter, anyway. It does make it tons easier.

I like the "matching game" idea. When my girls get bigger I'll have to remember it.

Wish I had tips for ya! I might have to take some of these tips on the other comments myself. Thursday is my laundry day, and yup, I am already missing a sock! Oh well. It's bound to happen with enough socks for 7 people for a week! I think in my case, my kids, who like to go barefoot around the house, take off their socks in the darndest places, and so some of them don't ever end up in the laundry. Oh well, we eventually find them, sometimes anyway!

I'm so with you on this one! I hate folding socks. Even if they're all there (which they're usually not) I just HATE folding them. Ugh. I have a mesh bag I use for other things, but I never thought of using them for socks!

That's really funny. I kind of like laundry because I can watch tv all saturday afternoon but still get the laundry done and feel like I was productive. What I hate is dishes, the endless pile up the starts to smell if you leave it too long.

Socks are by far my least favorite part of laundry too. I HATe them. I never even turn them right side out anymore. Good luck though. I think the washing machine eats them. That's the only explanation!

Caryn this is Janey, the love of Kelcie's life! You are such a cute mom you need to give me tips I only have FOUR months til my little one comes!

I hate it too. I've been bribing my Tommy to do it for years.

That is the same story in my house every time I do laundry, but never with my socks, mostly just Spencer and sometimes Forrest. Maybe it's a guy thing. I hate doing laundry and the socks are the worst part.

I don't mind the switching and gathering but I hate the folding and putting away. Seriously as soon as I am done the laundry baskets are already full! Uggh!
